THE BONY PONY HORSE RANCH
The Bony Pony Horse Ranch is tucked away in a canyon in the remote hills of Malibu, California.
The famous horse ranch is surrounded by the Santa Monica Mountains that rise up abruptly from sea level to over 3,000 ft. The landmark peak Bony Ridge looms over the horse ranch, hence the name Bony Pony Ranch. These mountains are filled with caves containing American Indian petroglyphs, drawn thousands of years ago by the Chumash Indians, who inhabited the land where the horse ranch now stands. The area around the horse ranch teems with wildlife, including mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, skunk, opossum, kangaroo rats, hawks, eagles, owls, rattlesnakes, lizards, tarantulas and scorpions.
The Animals at the Horse Ranch: Not Just Horses
In the past, giant California Condors soared high in the sky overhead the horse ranch looking for a meal. They roosted in the crevices and caves of Bony Ridge. Many years ago, the giant California Grizzly roamed the grounds of what is now the Bony Pony horse ranch. Today, the Horse ranch is home to a wide variety of creatures: Dogs, cats, horses, Texas longhorn steer, pygmy goats, pot-bellied pigs, sheep, alpacas,buffalos desert tortoises, boa-constrictors, pythons, monitor lizards, hawks, chimps, lions and tigers. These animals are part of the Bony Pony Ranch family and receive love and care from the Bony Pony staff as well as from countless volunteers. Most of these animals are adopted.
Celebrity Horse Ranch
On any given weekend, visitors to the horse ranch include Hollywood celebrities, musicians, professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, business people and others, all interested in helping the kids of the Bony Pony Ranch Foundation. Many guests choose to ride up on motorcycles to enjoy the winding roads of Little Sycamore Canyon, the bucolic canyon in which the horse ranch is nestled.
